Masterpieces from the Keramische Werkstatt Margaretenhöhe

Young-Jae Lee is an internationally acclaimed artist who has won a number of awards. She is also the managing director of the Keramische Werkstatt Margaretenhöhe, a ceramics studio in Essen. From 1986, together with Hildegard Eggemann, she developed the range of forms and colours which has been produced by the workshop staff more or less unchanged ever since. In line with Korean tradition, what matters for Young-Jae Lee is not the constant invention of new forms, but perfect mastery of the existing repertoire. The production of each new pot or jug resembles a meditation. Only with the internalization of the forms can the daily work at the potter’s wheel become a kind of spiritual exercise that is anything other than routine. The personality begins to flow into the work, the individuality is expressed in the craft.
